In collaboration with NZC, ECB and each player’s families, a trophy made of wood with a bat from each player will be unveiled on Thursday morning before the start of a three-match chain. The trophy was designed by Mahu Creative’s David Angavati, who along with South Africa designed the Tangivai Shield for the New Zealand Test series.
Both Crowe and Thorpe enjoyed a very successful Test career. Crowe is considered as the best batsman of New Zealand, an average of 45.36 with 17 centuries. Thorpe, who passed tragically in August, took an average of 44.66 with 16 hundreds.
Crowe and Thorpe became patrons for later generations, both members of the squads who would compete for a series of three matches.

ECB CEO Richard Gold said: “Martin and Graham are two legends of the game, and it is appropriate that the test series between the sides of our two men will now be fought after their name.
“It’s heartbreaking that both men have been lost so soon, but by honoring them in this way I hope that we can help ensure the memories and heritage of the best cricketers of our two nations.”
The Crow-Thorpe Trophy will be unveiled by Deb Crowe (Martin’s sister) and former England Test Captain Michael Attarton at Hagley Oval on Thursday.
