In a surprise move, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) asked Kolkata Knight Riders to release the Bangladeshi fast bowler. Mustafizur Rahman from their team ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026, to which the franchise duly obliged. The board has confirmed that they will allow KKR to sign a replacement player in place of Rahman, who they acquired for a whopping Rs 9.2 crore in the auction.
Being a left-arm foreign fast bowler and a highly skilled bowler in T20 cricket, it will not be an easy bowler to replace Rahman. But since the three-time champions would not like to miss the opportunity to buy similar replacements, CricTracker has done an analysis to examine the potential overseas fast bowlers who could join the Knight Riders dressing room ahead of the upcoming season.
Here are 3 possible replacements for Mustafizur Rahman in the KKR team ahead of IPL 2026
3. Spencer Johnson

spencer johnson He is an emerging fast bowler from Australia, and has been a part of the KKR set-up during the last season. However, he failed to live up to the expectations and was subsequently dropped before the auction. The left-arm fast bowler had registered for the 2026 season but did not find any taker and had to return home unsold.
However, KKR may re-sign him to bring him back into their squad and ask the player to represent the franchise once again. Since he has already spent a lot of time with the team and is also familiar with the team culture, Johnson is definitely the frontrunner to play for the Kolkata team ahead of Mustafizur.
