Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) mentor Zaheer Khan rang the bell in the prestigious Eden Garden before the much awaited struggle against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Tuesday, 8 April.
Zaheer is one of the finest fast bowlers representing the Indian team. He has 610 international wickets, the most by an Indian left -handed bowler. Ahead of 2025 edition Indian Premier League (IPL)LSG planted his guru in Zaheer. Gautam Gambhir served as the patron of Lucknow-based franchise in 2022 and 2023 before joining KKR. LSG had no one in that role in the last season. This was the first time they failed to secure a place in the playoffs.
The famous personality ringing bells became a pre-matched ritual at the Eden Gardens in September 2016, when Kapil Dev, who won India's first World Cup, honored before a test match between India and New Zealand.
The idea of installing a bell at the picturesque site was Sourav Ganguly's brainchild, who was then the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). Lord's Cricket Ground served as an inspiration and now, a large match at the Eden Gardens seems incomplete without a bell-ringing event.
Openers put LSG in commanding position
Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and decided to bowl first in the afternoon stability. However, KKR bowlers were taken to the cleaner by Aiden Markram inside the powerplay. Mitchell Marsh started seriously, but she cut himself loose after setting himself to the crease.
Harshit Rana scored 16 runs in his first over and away from a limit from his first ball. However, he bounced commendably as he watched secretly between Markram's bat and pad to disturb the stump and gave KKR a very important success in the 11th over.
However, the board is already waiting in wings with 99 runs and some fierce strikers such as Nicolas Gorn and David Miller, looking at the visitors to give a difficult time for the first time.
