Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ended their 18 -year wait for an Indian Premier League (IPL) title on Tuesday, June 3, as they defeated Punjab Kings (PBK) by six runs at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. RCB amulet batsman Virat Kohli After the victory, he was on his hump as he was continuing through all failures with the franchise from the day earlier.
While experts and fans are still celebrating Kohli's first IPL Triumph, Virender Sehwag compared his long wait with Sachin Tendulkar, mentioning that former India batsman had to wait longer to get his ODI World Cup dream. Tendulkar made his international debut and played five ODI World Cup and won only in his sixth and final attempt in 2011.
“Her (Kohli) waits to win the trophy for only 18 years. Sachin Tendulkar was waiting from 1989 to 2011. Therefore, Kohli's wait low, and Sachin still never lost hope. He had made up his mind, he would only bend out with the World Cup Trophy in his hand,” Sehwag told Cricbaz.
“This is the same for Virat Kohli. Now, he can get relief. He can happily stop playing IPL whenever he wants to make this decision. A player plays to win the trophy. Money comes and goes, but it is not easy to win the trophy. And even Kohli's wait is over, he has still given a very strong contribution in his campaign.”
36-year-old Kohli ended as the highest run-song for RCB in IPL 2025 and a third. In 15 matches, he scored 657 runs at a strike rate of 54.75 and 144.71 on an average. He scored the top for RCB in the first innings, scored a 35-chandend 43, as the silver Patidar-led side finished 190/9. In response, Punjab can manage only 184/7, Shashank Singh broke a brave 61 out of 30 balls. Krunal Pandya won the Player of the Match award for 17 runs in his four overs.
