In a major development, Lucknow Super Giants have added star cricketer kane williamson As their strategic advisor ahead of the 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Williamson, who has not retired yet, may not be seen as a player in the upcoming IPL season but will get a new role where he will work with the franchise behind the scenes.
Super Giants franchise co-owner Sanjiv Goenka made the official announcement on Thursday, October 16. Goenka expressed his delight at welcoming the New Zealand international to the Lucknow-based franchise. The co-owner believes that Williamson's strategic insight and leadership skills will serve as an inspiration to the LSG players and add immense value to the team's set-up.
“Kane has been a part of the Super Giants family, and it is a great pleasure to welcome him to his new role as Strategic Advisor for Lucknow Super Giants. His leadership, tactical insight, deep understanding of the game and ability to motivate players make him an invaluable member of the team,” Goenka officially announced through his 'X' handle.

Notably, Williamson has been a part of the Super Giants family, as he represents the Durban Super Giants in the SA20 competition, South Africa's premier global T20 league. He joined the Durban-based team last season and impressed with 233 runs at an average of 46.60, including a couple of half-centuries.
Now that his appointment at LSG has been finalized, Williamson will be seen playing the role of an advisor for the Rishabh Pant-led team. The team has not had the best campaign in the 2025 season and will be hoping for a change in the leadership of Pant and Williamson. For those unaware, LSG have recently parted ways with Zaheer Khan as their mentor, while former India bowling coach Bharat Arun has been welcomed into their environment.
