'Just want to contribute to the team's success' – Dushmantha Chameera ahead of Delhi Capitals' IPL 2026 opener against LSG

Delhi Capitals is ready to make its debut ipl 2026 campaign with new focus and clarity, as Sri Lankan fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera highlights the team's preparations ahead of their opening encounter against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

Coming into his second season with the franchise, Chameera talked about the continuity within the group and the work they have done in the lead-up to the tournament.

Chameera said, “We had prepared well for a few days, we had two practice matches and I think the boys are in a good place now. For me, it is always special because playing in the IPL is a dream. I was with the team last year too and if I get a chance this season, I want to contribute to the team's success.”

Highlighting the demands on bowlers in a high-scoring format like T20, Chameera said:

“It is always tough for fast bowlers in India. The wickets are good to bat on and the grounds are small, so you have to be very strong mentally. Preparation is not just about skill but also how you handle pressure in these conditions. If we execute our plans well, we can do well in these conditions as well.”

Speaking about the rapid growth of T20 and the Tigers' efforts to accelerate it, Chameera said:

“Compared to a few years ago, now even if you score 8-9 runs in an over, it can be okay depending on the situation. We discuss these things as a group, work on our plans and focus on what is best for the team at that moment.”

Speaking about the conditions in Lucknow, Chameera said,

“The boundaries here are a bit bigger than some of the other grounds and there is a bit more bounce as well. So the conditions might be a bit different and a score around 200 might be a good score on this wicket,” he said.

“We have discussed everything in the bowling group and we have different plans for different batsmen. In these types of conditions, execution becomes very important, especially for fast bowlers, so we have focused on that in preparation,” he said.

Delhi Capitals will face Lucknow Super Giants to begin their IPL 2026 campaign on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.
