Australian josh inglis Has confirmed that he will not be fully available for the 2026 installment of the Indian Premier League due to his marriage. Lucknow Supergiants signed Inglis for a whopping Rs 8.60 crore in the mini auction held at the Etihad Arena, Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, December 16.
The 2026 season of the cash-rich tournament will be played between March 26 and May 31. However, Inglis has said that due to his wedding in April, he will be unable to feature for the majority of the season for the Rishabh Pant-led side. The cricketer was surprised to see himself sold for such an impressive salary despite being informed that he would be completely unavailable to play.
“Well, I've seen it a lot [IPL auction] And I was pushed back in the pecking order. This year I don't have full availability. I'm getting married in early April. To be honest, I wasn't really expecting to go. In a way I saw that my name remained unsold. At first I said, 'It's all right, I'm going to sleep' and I have to switch on for tomorrow [3rd Ashes 2025-26 Test] And then woke up to this news. “I didn't know until I saw some messages this morning,” Inglis told ABC Sports.
Meanwhile, Punjab Kings co-owner Ness Wadia dropped a bomb that he had initially planned to retain the cricketer. However, they decided to release him into the auction pool a few minutes before the retention deadline. Inglis' first IPL 2025 with Punjab was a hit as he scored 278 runs in 11 matches at a strike rate of 162.57, but due to personal reasons, the 2025 runners-up did not retain him. Former PBKS head coach Ricky Ponting had earlier hinted to the franchise regarding Inglis' partial availability. The wicketkeeper-batsman was initially left unsold in the early stages. Sunrisers Hyderabad and LSG were involved in a bidding war. LSG eventually dethroned the 2016 champions. Inglis will be reunited with Justin Langer. The two had previously worked together as coach and player during their shared time at Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League.
