England players Jofra Archer, Sam Curan, and Jamie Overton Indian Premier League (IPL) will not be available for the remaining sports of their respective franchisees in 2025. While Archer represented Rajasthan Royals (RR), Curan and Overton for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) this season. In particular, both RR and CSK are out of the playoff race.
However, Jose Butler, Will Jack, Liam Livingstone and Jacob Bethel, among others, will reach the country on Wednesday, 14 May to fulfill their IPL commitments. Livingstone and Bethel Royal Challengers are changing for Bangalore (RCB), while Jose Butler and Will Jack are playing for Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI) respectively. All three teams are among the top four IPL 2025 points table.
Butler is expected to reach India on Wednesday night. Meanwhile, Jack can be seen in MI's practice session on Thursday. However, there is still no clarity about Phil Salat's return, which is red-hot for RCB in IPL 2025.
A high ranked official of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said that they understand that some England players are returning to fulfill the league engagement, while some others have not chosen, a development as well as confirmed by their respective franchisees.
According to Cricbuzz, CSK has confirmed that they will not look for replacement for curran and overton. Meanwhile, RR has revealed that Archer is nursing an injury and management is giving priority to its fitness.
An RR official said, “It is not a matter of not getting ready because we are out of the rakon for the playoffs. He is nurturing an injury and we are giving priority to his fitness.”
Moeen Ali, who plays for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), is still unlike whether to return. His father, Munir Ali, told the above website that he would be in a position to clarify in the next 24 hours.
After a week's break, the IPL resumes in Bengaluru on 17 May. The knockout begins on May 29, and the summit is on 3 June.
