Is KL Rahul unhappy with Delhi Capitals? Former CSK batsman has expressed fear of clash before IPL 2026

KL Rahul Joined Delhi Capitals (DC) for Rs 14 crore before last season during the mega auction. It was expected that he would be given the captaincy, but only Akshar Patel was successful in leading the team. He made a splash with his brilliant performance with the bat during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. 539 runs in just 13 innings in the 2025 season.

Ahead of the IPL 2026 mini auction, there were rumors of the wicketkeeper-batsman potentially leaving the franchise through a trade. However, the 33-year-old was ultimately retained by the franchise.

Former Chennai Super Kings batsman Subramaniam Badrinath Highlighting the frequent changes in his batting position last season, questions were raised whether Rahul is completely happy at Delhi Capitals.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Badrinath said, “Every year, the batting order is their puzzle, especially where KL Rahul should bat. I believe KL Rahul wants to open the innings. But, on the other hand, the team management wants him to bat in the middle order.”

He said, “It seems like it is a constant struggle. They definitely have to resolve this issue. It is not clear whether KL Rahul is happy in DC or not.”

The Capitals have strengthened their squad with some important signings after finishing outside the top four last season. They have added foreign openers Pathum Nissanka and Ben Duckett, while re-signing Indian batsman Prithvi Shaw.

The middle order also looks strong with the mix of Nitish Rana, David Miller and Tristan Stubbs. Ashutosh Sharma is the designated finisher in the team, while Sameer Rizvi is also expected to play at least a few matches.

Rahul has been one of the most consistent performers for India in the last 12 months in Tests and ODIs. However, he has not played T20I cricket for India since the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final against England.

Since there is no shortage of cricket talent in India, with new youngsters impressing every year, performing well in IPL 2026 could be crucial for the Karnataka legend as he looks to make a comeback into India's T20 team.
