The auction for the 2026 Indian Premier League is scheduled to take place on December 16 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. Renowned art collector and auctioneer Mallika Sagar, who recently conducted the mega auction for the Women's Premier League 2026, will conduct the grand event. The upcoming auction will be the third auction not to be held in India.
A total of 359 players have been shortlisted out of the 1355 names listed. Of the 359, 244 are Indians and 115 are foreigners. A total of 40 players have fixed their base price with a maximum limit of Rs 2 crore. Only two of them (Venkatesh Iyer and Ravi Bishnoi) are 40 Indians.
A total of 77 slots are available to be filled, of which 31 are for foreign players. With 13 vacancies, Kolkata Knight Riders have the most slots available. After them is Sunrisers Hyderabad who have 10 names.
Players like Devon Conway, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Sarfaraz Khan, David Miller and Prithvi Shaw will be available for the franchise in the initial stages. Several uncapped players who have been performing well in the domestic circuit such as Jammu and Kashmir's Auqib Nabi, Rajasthan's Ashok Sharma and Uttar Pradesh's Prashant Veer are also part of the auction.
The maximum squad size a franchise can reach is 25 players. A limit of eight players has been kept for foreign players. The minimum size of a team must be 18 players. The auction is set to begin with a set of capped batsmen.
