IPL 2026: 'You can see his hunger'

Delhi Capitals registered a six-wicket win over Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday, April 4, securing their second consecutive win in IPL 2026.

Chasing 163, Delhi Capitals achieved the target in 18.1 overs after being reduced to 7 for 2 early in the innings with the help of Sameer Rizvi's brilliant 90 off 51 balls and Pathum Nissanka's 44 off 30 balls.

DC's bowlers put in a disciplined performance to restrict Mumbai Indians to 162 for 6 on a slow pitch, with Mukesh Kumar leading the effort with figures of 2/26 in three overs, while captain Axar Patel, Vipraj Nigam and Lungi Ngidi made crucial breakthroughs.

Speaking after the match, Mukesh said that the team had planned to bowl first after winning the toss, and restrict the visitors to a manageable score.

“The plan was that if we won the toss we would bowl first and restrict them to a low score. It worked well – we kept them around 160 and won.”

Mukesh also reflected on Rizvi's performances, as the youngster has delivered consistent player of the match performances in the tournament so far. Rizvi, who was once again introduced as an impact player, changed the pace in the middle overs and ensured DC crossed the line with 11 balls to spare.

“In practice, he is always very positive. He used to say that if he walks early, he can play long innings, and he is doing exactly that. It is very good for the team and helps us win matches. Once he settles down, there is no going back. He plays with positive intent, and we are really happy to see his mindset. Ever since he joined the camp, you can see his hunger to score runs,” Mukesh said.

When asked about the importance of support from the team management, he said:

“It's not just one or two matches; it's a 14-match tournament. If the team doesn't support you, it becomes difficult. Here, everyone supports each other and encourages us to stick to our plans. That support is very important.”

On getting clarity on his role ahead of the season, Mukesh said

“Before the main season, we have practice matches. If you perform well there, the management and the team start supporting you. I had good practice games and also had regular conversations with Akshar Bhai during the off-season. He guided me on areas to improve and said these would be important during the season. His and the team's support is now visible in my performances.”

DC will take on Gujarat Titans on April 8 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
