Former Indian cricketer Chris Srikkanth has given this opinion Sunrisers Hyderabad The IPL 2026 auction didn't focus on covering up its bowling shortcomings from last season. The 2016 winners had 10 slots to fill after Mohammed Shami was traded to Lucknow Supergiants ahead of the auction.
Srikkanth questioned the SRH management for not finding similar options for the Indian fast bowler and going after players like Liam Livingstone at a higher price.
Srikkanth shared in a video on his YouTube channel, “Everyone let Livingstone go at the base price. If you had already decided to take him, you could have bought him for just Rs 2 crore. Their batting lineup is very good, but who will bowl 20 overs? Do SRH really need a player like Livingstone? They let Shami go. Who is Shami's replacement?”
The 65-year-old admitted that SRH disappointed in IPL 2025 despite being a good team on paper, and expressed concern over how the upcoming season will be for them.
They could have planned it better, but they already had a good side. Still, we all say 'good side', but they couldn't qualify last year. They were in decline like CSK last year.”

After emerging as runners-up in 2024, the Men in Orange did not fare well in IPL 2025 and finished sixth on the points table with only six wins from 14 matches. Despite winning three consecutive matches, they could not make it to the playoffs.
