IPL 2026: 'When he plays you expect a century' – Wasim Jaffer praises 'mature' Sanju Samson


Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer has praised a lot sanju samson After his brilliant century for Chennai Super Kings against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on April 11.

Commenting on the innings, Jaffer highlighted the remarkable growth in Samson's batting in the last year, especially his improved ability to build innings.

“He has matured a lot. Now, I think when Sanju plays, you expect him to score centuries. Even though he missed a few centuries in the T20 World Cup, now when he gets going, he paces his innings very well. In the last 15-20 innings in international cricket, I think he has scored three or four centuries, or close to that, which is amazing,” Jaffer said on ESPNcricinfo.

Jaffer's comments underline the change in expectations from Samson, who is no longer seen as just a flamboyant stroke-maker but a dependable batsman capable of converting starts into big scores. This was a brilliant innings by Samson, he scored 115* runs in just 56 balls.

Apart from this, the Kerala batsman also received praise from the former Australia captain aaron finch. Finch was impressed by Samson's patience and friendly batting style.

“The monkey is off his back now. It's never easy going into a new franchise, especially with the expectations that have come with Sanju. It sets up your middle order much better, when you have the ability to include Shivam Dubey whenever you want. Mhatre, he comes in and plays aggressively because he has got off to a good start. He is batting with a guy who is in complete control of his game,” Finch said.

Five-time champions CSK will now take on Kolkata Knight Riders at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai in a blockbuster encounter on April 14.
