Former Australian captain Aaron Finch has come out with vocal criticism cameron green After a poor start to the season in the 2026 IPL.
The most expensive foreign player in IPL history, Green was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 25.20 crore. With scores of 18, 4 and 2 in the three matches of Knight Riders so far, he has not been able to live up to this tag yet and has dropped to the third position.
Finch said Green has missed the mark this season, and is using his first season in the IPL with Mumbai Indians as a reference point. In 2023, Green was a revelation for the five-time champions, scoring 452 runs in 16 innings at a strike rate of 160.28. In the season he also scored his first IPL century while batting at number 3. Finch believes Green's intentions are different now and he looks more tentative at the crease.
“One of those dismissals was a run out, no fault of his. Still, he missed twice. There is a bit of nervousness, he doesn't look the same. Remember when he was at the top of the order for MI – how his intention was completely different. He was imposing at the crease. Now he looks tentative. Don't push him down. Either move him up the order, or rest him,” Finch said, speaking on ESPN Cricinfo's timeout. show
'It makes absolutely no sense' – Finch on Rahane's toss decision
Finch, who has represented KKR in 2022 along with several other franchises, was critical of the captain Ajinkya RahaneThe decision to bat first against Punjab Kings on a Kolkata wicket, where there was heavy rain and the conditions were favorable for fast bowlers. The game was eventually abandoned due to rain, with Kolkata's score at 2/2 in 3.4 overs.
“Winning the toss and deciding to bat after being under cover for a day – you know there's rain in the air – it makes absolutely no sense. That's an alarm bell for me. It's not that they're down two wickets for 25 runs. It's the fact that 'we shouldn't have batted'. Even with all the information, you're taking the wrong decision.”
“It's cloudy all around. You're expecting rain. They had three hours of rain. Obviously, someone told them at some point – 'It may rain later' – you might need to chase later. DLS [calculations in truncated games] Works slightly better for the team batting second. You have got all that information, so I don't understand how you came to the decision that you will bat first,'' Finch said.
Kolkata Knight Riders have not won in the three matches played so far. They will host Lucknow Supergiants at the Eden Gardens on April 9 and will hope to get their campaign back on track with a win.
