Sri Lankan right arm fast bowler Nuwan Thushara Legal action has reportedly been taken against Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), seeking early issuance of No Objection Certificate (NOC) to participate in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. He currently represents Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL.
According to reports, Thushara filed a petition in the Colombo District Court on Thursday, April 2, requesting a direction to compel the SLC to grant him the sanction. The case has been listed for first hearing on April 9.
In his legal filing, the Lankan pacer has named several top officials as defendants, including SLC president Shammi Silva, secretary Bandula Dissanayake, treasurer Sujeewa Godaliadda and CEO Ashley de Silva. The development comes after SLC reportedly withheld the NOC for his IPL participation citing fitness concerns.
The board said that Thushara did not meet the required physical standards, which led to the decision to deny him clearance for overseas participation. However, the right-arm fast bowler has strongly disputed this claim and said that his fitness levels remain in line with his career standards.
They have also expressed concern that the absence of an NOC could adversely impact their chances in the global franchise league. Thushara was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 1.60 crore before the season, making the situation even more important for both the player and the franchise.
With the legal route now taken, all eyes will be on the upcoming hearing, which could determine whether Thushara gets the green light to join the IPL 2026.
Known for his explosive bowling action like Lasith Malinga, Thushara has been a key figure in Sri Lanka's T20I set-up recently. Even in the IPL, he has performed well by taking nine wickets in eight wickets. He was a part of RCB's IPL winning team last season.
