After this Virender Sehwag praised Rajasthan Royals a lot. Vaibhav Suryavanshi And Dhruv Jurel's stellar performance with the bat against defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Friday, April 10 set up a spectacular run chase for the inaugural champions.
After a delay due to heavy rain, Royal Challengers scored 201/8 in their 20 overs, with captain Rajat Patidar hitting 63 off 40 balls. While the total looked good, the destructive duo of Suryavanshi and Jurel made it look quite modest with a real display of ball-striking.
After Yashasvi Jaiswal was out in the second over, they made a partnership of 108 runs in just 37 balls. Suryavanshi was eventually dismissed for 78 off 26 balls, before Rajasthan lost two quick wickets of Shimron Hetmyer and Riyan Parag. However, experienced Ravindra Jadeja along with Jurel gave the team the win with two overs to spare. The former scored 24* (25), while the latter remained unbeaten on 81 (43).
Former India opener Virender Sehwag said that at the halfway stage, he felt Bengaluru were a few runs short, especially with the way Rajasthan played their batting. Nawab of Najafgarh said that even 220 runs would not have been enough for Royal Challengers as the hosts achieved the target of 202 runs in just 18 overs.
Sehwag said on Cricbuzz, “When they scored 200, I thought it was low because of the way Rajasthan are playing, and the kind of pitch, and the start RCB got. Even if it was 220, Rajasthan would have chased it because they got 200 with two overs to spare.”
Sehwag further said that no expert has placed the Royals in the projected top four for the current season. However, with four wins from as many matches, the Royals remain at the top of the standings.
“No expert had RR in their top four, and now they are at the top of the table. When both your batting and bowling work, and it all clicks, you become tough to beat,” he said.
If Suryavanshi and Jurel had stayed on, they would have achieved the target in 12-13 overs: Sehwag.
Sehwag said that if Krunal Pandya had not broken the partnership of Suryavanshi and Jurel in the ninth over, the match would have ended much earlier.
Sehwag said, “At one time it seemed that if Suryavanshi and Jurel had stayed put, they would have completed the chase in 12-13 overs. If Suryavanshi had been there, he could have done the same. All these singles and doubles are not in his dictionary. So that partnership broke the back of RCB.”
