Shreyas IyerHis sister Shrestha has become the center of controversy after a video was uploaded on social media after Punjab Kings' match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens.
After the game ended, he posted a video on Instagram and said, “Sade Punjabiyan da dil wadda hunda hai, lo de ditta ek point,” which translates to “Punjabis have a bigger heart. Take a point.”
Following the backlash, Shrestha said on Instagram that she did not intend to hurt anyone and it was just her way of celebrating the game and supporting her brother Shreyas.
“Guys, I don't understand why hatred is being spread. It's just a game. The videos are just for entertainment, and I'm here to support my brother. I will continue to do so. No hate for any team, it's just a game. Everyone should take it with the game,” Shrestha said in a video shared on Instagram Stories.
She said, “I understand the aggression. I was not trolling anyone. This was my way of celebrating and I will continue to do so. I am just here to say that there is no hatred for anyone. Only love is a game. We all should have fun. The rivalry should be seen, no matter what. There was no personal attack, just stay calm. Keep the peace, guys.”
Punjab Kings had restricted Knight Riders to 25/2 in 3.4 overs before rain intervened. KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane's decision to bat first on the wicket in cloudy conditions is also under scrutiny.
After winning their first two games, the washout means Punjab Kings' unbeaten status in IPL 2026 continues. They will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the New PCA Stadium in Mullanpur on April 11.
