Prithvi Shaw Has returned to Delhi Capitals (DC) after going unsold in the Indian Premier League 2025 auction. The opening batsman struggled for form in the 2023 and 2024 seasons, scoring only 304 runs in 16 innings in both editions. However, ahead of IPL 2026, Shaw said that the break helped him get mentally refreshed and physically stronger.
He was dropped by Delhi Capitals midway through IPL 2024 and also lost his place in the Mumbai domestic team during the 2024-25 season. Following this setback, Shaw changed teams and represented Maharashtra in the recent domestic season in an attempt to revive his career.
“I enjoyed my life a lot. I went to some places to refresh my mind a bit. Then I came back [and followed] Same routine: I practiced, worked hard. Be it training or batting, whatever I used to do, I started doing it thrice. And I think it was a good break for me. I can't say that I took a step back. I needed that break to make myself mentally stronger,” Shaw said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
“I am a human being; I will make mistakes. Obviously, they only know half of what is written or said out there. My family knows me… my friends know me inside and out. Whenever things, good or bad, came up on social media or in newspapers, [about me]I was very young [to understand them]obviously. whenever you look [such stuff]You come [back for more]. So I stopped seeing them,” he said.
In DC, Shaw will face competition from Pathum Nissanka and Abhishek Porel for a spot at the top of the order along with KL Rahul. DC last qualified for the playoffs in 2021 and finished fifth in the 2025 season. They are set to begin their 2026 campaign against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Lucknow on April 1.
“Those things were used to keep me away from all this [related to cricket]. I had confidence in myself. Because I know where I came from, how hard I worked. Humans make mistakes…okay, go ahead. This is all history, and it happened many years ago… I think 1774499012 This is the time when mentally I feel very happy to be on the field,” Shaw concluded.
