jos buttler He suffered a forgettable start to 2026, struggling to find form during the T20 World Cup where he failed to score fluently. Now representing Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League 2026, the England wicketkeeper-batsman has scored modest scores of 38 against Punjab Kings and 26 against Rajasthan Royals.
Despite the poor conditions, Buttler remains optimistic about finding his rhythm again. The right-handed batsman said he is relying on his game and experience to turn things around and deliver impressive performances. He is determined to make a match-winning contribution for GT, who are still searching for their first win of the season.
“I'm feeling really good. Feeling good after the break.” [T20] World Cup, just put the bat down and have some space. Basically, just focusing on myself and my set-up and making sure I'm in a good position when the ball is released – which I do,'' Buttler said on the For the Love of Cricket podcast.
“And then just trusting my game, trusting my experience and trying to let it happen. I'm in a good position, like with a few starts. You always want to step up and make a match-winning contribution, but it's good to feel calm in the middle and in a good place. Hopefully that can continue,” he said.
B Sai Sudarshan, Butler's teammate at GT, on Tuesday said the wicketkeeper-batsman looks closer to playing big innings than anyone else. Butler himself, meanwhile, is focused on living in the present and trusting his process.
“Every day you start from ground zero and that's what I'm looking forward to. Just looking forward, not thinking about the past, looking at the games and just trying to measure up and not read too much into past successes or past failures,” Butler said.
“Sometimes you can – and I've certainly done this sometimes – create a kind of mental block against a certain bowler or a certain position, and say 'This doesn't work for me, on this ground.' Or 'Why can't I score runs on any ground' or that kind of mentality. I'm really trying to stay away from that,'' he said.
Buttler also said he is enjoying his time working with GT's new batting coach Matthew Hayden. Buttler has scored 602 runs in 15 innings for GT, which includes five half-centuries. GT's next match is against Delhi Capitals on Wednesday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Buttler is expected to bat at number three behind Sudarshan and Shubman Gill.
Buttler said, “It's been great to rely on his experiences. He's a big guy, you can imagine his presence when he's batting, but when he's talking face to face, that aura is quite nice. It's been good to get the experience. We're talking about really simple things.”
