Simon Doull expressed this opinion Rahul Tewatia His tenure is over and it would be better for Gujarat Titans to replace him with Sai Kishore. His statement came before the Titans' match against Delhi Capitals on Wednesday, April 8 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Doull highlighted that Tewatia does not bowl these days and is decent on the field. However, bringing Kishore into the lineup will provide similar batting resources along with better bowling and fielding abilities.
“They are taking Rahul Tewatia in. I wouldn't even say he is a luxury at No. 7 because he is not. He is a safety net who can be fine to get you some runs. He no longer bowls and is fine in the field. With all due respect, his time has passed in my opinion. You get a Sai Kishore there, because he gives you something else. Bringing him in for Tewatia makes your batting the same, but it gives you less bowling options. And throws a jet into the field.” Doull said on Cricbuzz.
After losing consecutive games at the start of the campaign, former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan suggested some changes that the Shubman Gill-led side could consider.
Zaheer said, “Washington Sundar is one place they can look at. If they say Washi is not performing well with the bat and they need some bowling options, then they can bring in Sai Kishore. If they want to take out a fast bowler to bring Sai Kishore in, they can look at Ashok Sharma. If they want to make two places, then maybe Glenn Phillips can go out and Jason Holder can come in. Holder Can also come in place of Rabada.”
Doull suggested some changes in the Gujarat team, including Jason Holder in place of Kagiso Rabada and Kishore in place of Tewatia.
Doull said, “Holder should come in place of Rabada. This will make your batting deeper again. Kishore and Holder will be in and Rabada and Tewatia will be out. You give another chance to the rest of the middle-order players.”

Zaheer Khan said Glenn Phillips is an important part of the Gujarat line-up as the team is expecting a lot from him, especially after trading Sherfane Rutherford to Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2026. The 47-year-old said that if Gujarat presses the panic button and drops Phillips, Jason Holder could be brought into the team. In the first two matches, the Kiwi all-rounder has managed only 28 runs and has been under-utilized with the ball.
“He (Phillips) is a key cog in their lineup. They have invested in him and sold Rutherford to play in the 11. They have high expectations from him. If they press the panic button, maybe Holder will come in,” Zaheer said (via the above source).
