Ravi Bishnoi He has been the premier spinner for the Lucknow Super Giants since making his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut in 2022. However, that changed when Rajasthan Royals (RR) included him in the IPL 2026 mini auction.
Last season in the IPL, Bishnoi had a forgettable time in Lucknow. He took nine wickets in 11 matches at an average of 44.56. He was dominated by fellow leg spinner Digvesh Rathi, who made his IPL debut that season.
Bishnoi has rediscovered his form after moving to Royals. In just four matches, he has taken nine wickets at an average of 12.67 and currently holds the Purple Cap.
After RR's six-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Friday, April 10, former India opener Aakash Chopra lauded Bishnoi's spell of 2/32 in four overs. The 25-year-old took the crucial wickets of Virat Kohli and Krunal Pandya.
“Last time he took nine wickets in 11 matches and have already taken nine wickets in four. In the last match he took four wickets and he got Virat Kohli out here. He is taking important wickets. Well done, Rajasthan. Really, it was a steal. Nice acquisition, and he is delivering the goods. So huge congratulations to Ravi Bishnoi,” he said in a video on his YouTube channel.
Chopra impressed with Jofra Archer's plan as he started the proceedings with a sharp bouncer which took Phil Salt by surprise and was caught by wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel.
He said, “Jofra Archer got Phil Salt out on the first ball. Why doesn't any fast bowler bowl a bouncer on the first ball? As an opening batsman, you never prepare for a bouncer. You think he might bowl a length ball or swing it. A bouncer is the last thing on your mind. Archer bowled a bouncer and Salt was out on the first ball.”
He is one of the best players of spin: Aakash Chopra on Rajat Patidar
The cricketer turned commentator praised Patidar for showing different variations in his batting while attempting to save RCB from a precarious position and score 200-plus for them.
He said, “Rajat Patidar is brilliant. He is absolutely gold dust. The way he is standing in his position and hitting sixes, he has changed the style of cricket. He is one of the best players of spin. There is no doubt about it. Maturity, clarity, conviction and quality. If you add all those together, I see Rajat Patidar's innings.”
The former Kolkata Knight Riders batsman mentioned that if Patidar had not played that kind of innings, RCB might not have been able to bat its full 20 overs.
“A lot of wickets fell from the other end, and it looked like the team would not be able to play 20 overs. You had to bring in Venkatesh Iyer as an impact player, which meant you didn't get Suyyash Sharma later on, but Rajat Patidar, great,” Chopra said.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Dhruv Jurel scored 78 and 81* respectively, making the target of 202 runs easy. The inaugural champions eventually returned home in 18 overs with six wickets left in the bank.
