Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Bangar has given this opinion Mathisha Pathirana Lucknow may be on the radar of Super Giants. Pathirana was released by CSK ahead of the auction after spending four consecutive seasons there. The auction is scheduled to take place on December 16 in Abu Dhabi.
Bangar highlighted LSG's primary objective of strengthening their fast bowling unit. He also wondered whether Digvesh Rathi would be able to have another good season with the ball after impressing in his debut IPL campaign.
“They may consider an overseas quick acquisition as that is their main requirement. Maybe, Pathirana would be fantastic. LSG would definitely like to see someone like Pathirana to strengthen their fast bowling department. They would definitely like to backup Digvesh Rathi from an Indian point of view, but for me, Pathirana could be a good target for LSG going into the auction. Rathi had a very good first season, but can he repeat it?” Bangar shared while speaking on Star Sports.
lsg Recently took advantage of the trade window and brought in experienced fast bowler Mohammed Shami from Sunrisers Hyderabad. The Sanjiv Goenka-owned franchise has retained 19 players and has a purse of Rs 22.95 crore left. They have six slots left which includes four overseas slots.
Talking about the fast bowlers they have so far, LSG have Avesh Khan, Prince Yadav, Akash Deep and Mayank Yadav apart from the newly-acquired Shami. They also acquired Arjun Tendulkar from Mumbai Indians by trading away five-time champions Shardul Thakur. At present the bowling attack is very strong.
Barring Pathirana's first season, the Sri Lankan has been one of the quicker wickets. He took a total of 55 wickets in three seasons from 2023 to 2025. Pathirana last played competitive cricket for Sri Lanka in the 2025 Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
LSG qualified for the playoffs in its first two seasons in the IPL (2022 and 2023). The 2024 and 2025 seasons were a bit of a disappointment as they finished seventh on both occasions.
