Former India opener Aakash Chopra has sparked a debate by naming his top five Indian batsmen against spin bowling in white-ball cricket. In particular, he left the giants Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma.

Despite facing some struggles against off-spin recently, the Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman has an excellent overall record against spin in T20s, averaging close to 42 and his runs at an impressive strike rate of 184.60. Chopra chose Suryakumar Yadav at number 4. The Mumbai Indians star is widely regarded for his innovative strokeplay and ability to dominate the spinners in the middle overs. His strike rate against spin in T20 is 132.30, while his average is 39.20.
Rajat Patidar is at third place in Chopra's ranking. The Royal Challengers Bangalore captain, who led the franchise to its maiden IPL title last season, has been consistently performing well against spin. He averages around 45 in T20 against spin and has a strike rate of over 168.
Chopra went with at number 2 Shivam Dubey. Representing Chennai Super Kings, the tall left-handed batsman has been a destructive force against spin thanks to his clean hitting ability. Dubey averages above 40 against spin in T20s and has a strike rate north of 141. In IPL 2026, he has contributed 69 runs in three matches at an average of 34.50 and a strike rate of around 157.
Topping the list is Shreyas Iyer, who has built a reputation as one of India's finest players of spin. The brilliant right-handed batsman's quick footwork allows him to effectively counter spinners with both the front and back foot. His average against spin in T20 is over 43, while his strike rate is close to 139. In the current season, he has had consistent starts, averaging 34 in three matches and a strike rate of 170.
