There was a bit of confusion and drama at the toss during the high-voltage Indian Premier League 2026 clash between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 29.
MI captain Hardik Pandya and KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane Ravi Shastri joined for the toss before the match. Pandya won the toss and decided to bowl first on the expected lines. But, this was not a topic of discussion at the time, as the result of the toss was not shown on the feed, a practice that has become routine in the IPL.
The broadcasters straight away showed a smiling Hardik Pandya and announced that MI had won the toss. With Mumbai Indians involved in this incident, discussions have started on social media regarding this blunder committed by the official broadcasters.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) started showing the sides of the coin after the toss to increase transparency and remove controversies related to fairness. The close-up zoom on the coin was implemented in IPL 2024. However, this was what was missing during the toss in MI's match against KKR.
Meanwhile, after KKR was invited to bat first, its openers Ajinkya Rahane and finn allen Made a partnership of 69 runs for the first wicket. Allen scored 37 runs in 17 balls, while Rahane performed brilliantly by scoring 67 runs in 40 balls. He hit five sixes in his innings, which is the joint highest number of sixes in any T20 innings.
Why don't they show the coin after the toss?
What an important toss this was!!!

Fans are saying that when Hardik Pandya tossed the coin and Mumbai Indians won the toss, the normal zoomed-in shot from the toss camera was not shown.
Since 2025, this close-up angle has been shown in almost every IPL match, but today it was missing in MI vs Kolkata Knight… https://t.co/VQNLYBFEXs

Hardik had just tossed the coin, the camera malfunctioned and in about 5 seconds they announced that MI had won the toss. After the coin landed, the coin was not visible even in the camera. They just announced that MI won the toss.
