Control Board for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to stop Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 On Friday, May 9 amid growing border tension between India and Pakistan. The IPL issued a statement saying that the 18th edition was suspended for a week with immediate effect.
IPL President Arun Dhumal had said that there was no point in continuing the league amidst geopic tension associated with two neighboring countries – India and Pakistan. People were guessing whether the remaining season would be played outside India or in the September window, which is reserved for the Asia Cup, which would be the most likely out of the possibility.
However, according to BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia, the board will spend the next 48 hours to collect the next 48 hours before holding a meeting to call the future of the league. 16 plays including four playoffs remain in the season.
“The BCCI suspended the IPL for a period of seven days yesterday, and today, we are survived with five more days on the second day. The BCCI is closely monitoring the developed status and developments, and the IPL will call when the IPL resumes after consulting all the stakeholders of IPL and concerned government officials.”
Saikia said that the board would start discussion with IPL stakeholders in the next 48 hours after receiving approval from the Government of India about the resumption of the league.

Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Vishwanathan said that yellow men may be out of the playoffs race, but they want the tournament to be completed. He said that he would cooperate with the BCCI about a restart and has already informed foreign stars that they may have to re -include the camp in a week.
“Although we are not in controversy for a play-off berth, we want the league to be completed. IPL is a prestigious league and we want it to cooperate with BCCI on the matter. We have only two more games left and we have advised foreign players to return to a week's time,” said Vishwanathan.
