Rajasthan Royals (RR) bowlers Tushar Deshpande He has revealed that during the match against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Saturday, April 4, he was initially scheduled to bowl the 19th over instead of the last. The 30-year-old was the star of a nervy end to the game, defending 11 runs in the final over to give his side an unexpected victory.
Deshpande said that he was a little sad when Joffra Archer was chosen to bowl the 19th over in his place. The right-arm pacer used that aggression to good effect in the final over against GT.
“To be honest, it just happened in the heat of the moment when the match was halted, and the way we won it from the jaws of defeat. I wasn't supposed to bowl the last over; I was going to bowl the 19th over, and that hurt me a bit. Then Riyan (Parag) asked me to bowl the 20th over, so that was the aggression to bowl the last over and we won the game.”
Deshpande later said that he was completely unaware that his aggressive celebration after RR won the game was exactly like Rashid Khan's when the Afghanistan star took a wicket on the last ball to seal victory over RR in Jaipur in 2024.
Deshpande's celebration can be seen below:
After scoring 210 runs while batting first in Ahmedabad. RR When GT was moving towards the goal it looked like the second best team. Ravi Bishnoi then brought the 2008 champions back into the game by taking four wickets.
However, Deshpande was the best bowler, conceding only 24 runs in three overs, while taking the crucial wicket of Rashid Khan in the final over. GT needed 11 runs off the last six balls, with the seamer giving away only four runs, including bowling three dot balls at the end to give RR its second win of the 2026 season.
Coming from Chennai Super Kings, Deshpande is currently in his second season representing the Jaipur-based franchise. He took nine wickets in 10 matches last season.
