'I love you, but you don't have to be there next year'


MS Dhoni Currently, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are leading in the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the absence of Primary Captain Ruturaj Gikwad.

The wicketkeeper-betters have not been able to revive the fate of CSK in IPL 2025 as the five-time champions are at the bottom of the issue table. Yellow men have lost seven of the nine matches played so far in IPL 2025.

Legendary pre-Australian wicketkeeper-boss Adam Gilchrist suggested that Dhoni should be called time on his game career after IPL 2025. Former said that Dhoni has nothing to prove anyone in the game.

“MS Dhoni has nothing to prove to anyone in the game. Well, he knows what to do, but for the future, perhaps he does not need to be there next year. I love you. MS, you are a champion and an icon,” Gilchrist described CSK's struggle ahead of CSK struggle against Punjab Kings on Wednesday, 30 April.

Dhoni, who is currently 43 years old, has batted in nine innings this season. He has scored an average of 140 runs on an average of 28 and has a strike rate of 142.86. Dhoni won the Player of the Match Award against Lucknow Super Giants, when he scored 11-ball 26 runs. However, it was the only match winning innings of former India captain in IPL 2025.

Chennai still has a mathematical opportunity to make it in playoffs. However, he will have to win the remaining five matches and expect other results to fall.

CSK lost its most recent clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad at its home ground on 25 April. Dhoni and the company were excluded for 154, before SRH chased the target with five wickets and eight balls. A win on Wednesday is mandatory for CSK to maintain its expectations of the playoffs alive.
