Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Friday, May 9 was suspended for a week. The IPL issued a statement after a clash at Dharamasala of Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capital and was left to the Central Marg and was informed about its decision to postpone the commercial end of the tournament.
IPL President Arun Dhumal said that he is confident that foreign players returning home during the break in the tournament will return to the country before resume. He also said that after discussing with the Government of India and the stakeholders involved, a decision will be taken to resume the 10-team competition.
“I am sure foreign players want to come back and be a part of the tournament. As the IPL was suspended for a week, everyone wanted to return to their loved ones. We will review the situation and accordingly will keep all the stakeholders informed, including the owners of our franchise,” Dhumal told the Indian Express in an interview.
We have not interacted with ECB: Dhumal
Some reports claimed that England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) offered control board for cricket in India (BCCI) to host the remaining IPL in England. Dhumal was happy about other countries, which were ready to host the Marki League. However, he clarified that there has been no conversation with ECB to transfer the remaining games to the European country.
“I am also hearing this. But we have no conversation with them. I am happy that the country is ready to host this premiere tournament.”
16 matches are yet to be played in IPL 2025. This includes 12 league games, three playoff matches and all important finals. Former champions under the leadership of Shubman Gill, the Gujarat Titans, are currently number 1 on the points table. Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings have already been terminated from the race to the playoffs.
