'He's not as scary as he used to be'

India's great spinner Anil Kumble has said that Afghanistan's bowlers Rashid Khan He's not as accurate as he used to be. Kumble believes that despite being full of variations, the young spinner is no longer that intimidating to the batsmen, especially in T20 cricket. As a result, the former cricketer feels that he may not be as effective for Gujarat Titans in the 2026 Indian Premier League.

The Karnataka-born player further said that there are other bowlers who are as good as Rashid, which makes him pale in comparison to the former. He advised the GT management to take care of Rashid's workload ahead of the upcoming IPL season and put some more responsibilities on Washington Sundar and R Sai Kishore.

“I think the novelty of Rashid Khan has worn off a bit. There are a lot of similar bowlers available now, so he's not as intimidating as he used to be. With bowlers like Sai Kishore, his workload has to be more managed. Even Rahul Tewatia And Washington Sundar can contribute more for GT this season,” Kumble expressed via JioStar.

GT needs to focus on his batting: Irfan Pathan

Meanwhile, cricketer-turned-commentator Irfan Pathan believes that the Gujarat-based franchise should try to utilize the maximum potential of the Caribbean all-rounder, whom they bought for Rs 7.00 crore in the mini-auction. However, Pathan also feels that with big names like Rashid, Holder, Jos Buttler and Glenn Phillips, GT needs to be a little cautious in using their four overseas players.

“Their bet on Jason Holder is interesting. He is a wonderful bowler with the new ball, but his batting has improved, especially his six-hitting ability. GT has put a lot of faith in him. Their main strength is their top three batsmen: Shubman Gill, Sai Sudarshan and Jos Buttler. How they use Washington Sundar will be important, as their batting has also improved. Glenn Phillips, or whoever plays at number four or five, has a role to play as well. It will be big,” Pathan said.

GT Team for IPL 2026: Shubman Gill (C), Sai Sudarshan, Kumar Kushagra, Anuj Rawat, Jos Buttler, Nishant Sindhu, Washington Sundar, Arshad Khan, Shahrukh Khan, Rahul Tewatia, Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Ishant Sharma, Gurnoor Singh Brar, Rashid Khan, Manav Suthar, Sai Kishore, Jayant Yadav, Glenn Phillips, Jason Holder, Ashok Sharma, Luke Wood, Prithvi Raj Yera, Tom Banton.
