Indian premiere league (IPL) President Arun Dhumal said that the last night of the official ceremony for RCB was concluded and the league officer was unaware of any other event in Bengaluru. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) finally picked up its first IPL Trophy after 18 years, defeating Punjab Kings (PBK) in the IPL 2025 final held in Ahmedabad on June 3.
However, during the victory ceremony held in Bengaluru, a moment of the festival turned into a tragedy, where a stampede claimed 11 people and injured several others. Dhumal clarified that all ceremonies and festivals were officially supported by the team and the IPL was completed on the first night. “For BCCI, IPL ended last night. Whatever ceremony was being held, it ended with the ceremony which we did last night. Now how this incident happened, we have no knowledge of it. We had no idea of such an incident in Bengaluru.”
The RCB team arrived with thousands of fans to celebrate their first IPL title. The huge crowd caused chaos, many fans died due to the crowd. In the midst of anarchy, the stadium gates collapsed and injured many people.
Despite efforts by the police to manage the situation, the mob defeated security personnel and made it difficult to control the situation. Unfortunately, the victory ceremony ended in the tragedy, many people were injured and many lost their lives.
RCB issued an official statement on tragic incidents.
The statement said, “We are deeply suffering from the unfortunate incidents that occur through media reports about public functions in Bengaluru this afternoon. The safety and welfare of all is very important for us,” the statement said.
“RCB mourns the tragic loss of life and expands its heartfelt sensations to the affected families. When we are immediately aware of the situation, we immediately amended our program, and followed the guidance and advice of the local administration. We urge all our supporters to be safe,”.
