Five -time champion, Mumbai Indians (MI) is currently in a difficult position as his former captain and batting stallwart, Rohit SharmaContinues struggling with the bat. The form of Rohit, once a fearful opener in the IPL, has been disappointing since the last few versions, which triggers questions about his place in the playing XI.
The 37-year struggle is not limited to a cash-rich league only. Dipped in his form began with the weather of the house, where he failed to give against Bangladesh and New Zealand. Efforts to revive their batting in the middle order in Nagpur-born Border-Gavaskar Trophy also failed. In the three Tests played by him, he could manage only a double-designation score (10), as he ended with just 31 runs under his belt.
Things became so bad that they dropped themselves by playing India with XI in the Sydney Test, as it was due to long failures. Even a return to domestic cricket, where he played the Ranji Trophy game for Mumbai, did not help. He was dismissed for just three runs in 19 balls against Jammu and Kashmir.

Their start for IPL 2025 has been poor. In the experienced opener of Mumbai Indians against Chennai Super Kings, he recorded a duck, which fell to Kketel Ahmed. Things did not improve in the next match against Gujarat Titans. He started killing some boundaries with Mohammad Siraj, but soon became undone from a delivery that returned fast. The right -handed batsman lasted only for four balls and went back by adding eight runs to his chase of 197.
Meanwhile, with the IPL being more high scoring and batting favorable, every team requires its top order to set fire. However, experienced batsmen failures are putting MI on the back leg. The franchise may have to decide whether this option can continue with an out-of-form opener if available. In particular, MI dropped the English all -rounder Will Jack for his match against Gujarat. Jack, who had an incredible debut IPL season with RCB, was selected by MI for INR 5.25 crore in MIA-auction. He was seen as a potential initial partner for Rohit, but has been preferred by Ryan Recelleton instead.
But who will replace Rohit?
However, the top-order conflicts of Jack Mi may be responded. With a solid start and his ability to provide a strike rate of 175 in IPL 2024, he may be in dire need of aggressive opener MI. While Rohit is a franchise legend and a great leader, his present form is a responsibility. If Mi wants to stay in a hunting for a title in IPL 2025, they should consider bringing them to Jack in place of Rohit to provide firepower on top.
