“it [Rohit travelling to Pakistan] There has been no discussion yet. “It is not on the agenda yet,” BCCI’s newly appointed secretary Devjit Saikia told ESPNcricinfo.
It has not been confirmed whether BCCI will need the permission of the Government of India for Rohit to go to Pakistan or not.
Due to the political tension between the two countries, India and Pakistan have not played any bilateral series since 2012, but they continue to face each other in ICC tournaments. While Pakistan has traveled to India for ICC tournaments in this period, India has not played any international cricket in Pakistan since 2008.
It is understood that the PCB has requested the ICC to ensure that as per standard practice, all teams and captains are available for the Champions Trophy photoshoot, opening ceremony and other pre-tournament events. It is understood that the ICC is still finalizing the logistics and travel dates for the teams.
Incidentally, the ICC did not organize a captaincy program ahead of the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup, which was co-hosted by the West Indies and the USA. Since the teams are playing practice matches in multiple countries, the ICC chose to conduct the official launch through a lighting projection show showing all 20 captains smiling on the Rockefeller Center building in New York City. It is understood that like the 2024 T20 World Cup, teams will have the option of playing two warm-up matches each depending on the timing of their arrival for the Champions Trophy.
Saikia: ‘BCCI will follow every ICC rule related to uniform’
Meanwhile, Saikia has clarified that India will follow the ICC-prescribed dress code for the Champions Trophy, responding to media speculation that the BCCI had objected to the name of the host nation on its jerseys. Players’ jerseys during ICC events usually include the tournament logo, with the name of the tournament below it, the host country and the year.
Saikia said, “BCCI will follow every ICC rule related to uniform during the Champions Trophy.” PTI“Whatever other teams do regarding logo and dress code, we will follow it in letter and spirit.”
