Butler won the 2022 T20 World Cup, his first ICC tournament as captain, but England has weakened since then. He lost six out of nine matches in the 2023 ODI World Cup, thrashing by India in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup in 2024, and now moved out of the Champions Trophy with a group match after a back-to-back defeat in Australia and Afghanistan.
Matthew Mot lost his job as the coach of England after last year’s T20 World Cup and Butler admitted that he was afraid of his job at that time. He since then captained the team on a tough tour for India, where he had won only in eight matches once, and showed assuming that he was likely to have time after the game on Wednesday night.
Butler said, “It is difficult to say, it was still standing here, and I do not want to make any kind of emotional statement.” Sky sports“But I think it is appropriate to say that you have to consider all the possibilities.
“I enjoyed it [the captaincy]I have seen that many people say that it does not sit well with me, but I enjoy it. I enjoy the challenge. Obviously, I do not enjoy losing the game of cricket and results. And, of course, when they are not going well, you see yourself in the mirror and say, ‘Am I part of the problem or are I part of the solution?’ I think I got to work. ,
Butler admitted in his post -match press conference that his future could not be in his hands. “You [the press] Perhaps there are not the first people with whom I discuss, “He said.” It will take me some time to work, personally, which I think is right, and obviously people at the top are in charge, and will also have their own views.
“I enjoy the leading. Even before, when I was not a captain, I want to think about myself as a leader in the team. But the results are difficult, and they do heavy weight many times. Certainly, you want to lead a winning team, and we’re not for some time, so obviously bring some difficult moments.”
Harry Brook captained England in his ODI series against Australia in September and is his official vice-captains in the Champions Trophy, while Liam Livingstone (ODI) and Phil Salat (T20I) have also depots in the absence of Butler. After Saturday’s game against South Africa, England’s next white-ball fixtures are against the West Indies in June.
In Lahore, England, despite the first ODI hundred of Joe Root since 2019, the 326-Run target set by Afghanistan was reduced. Butler said that his failure to reach the target on a flat pitch was a reflection of the team’s widespread conflicts.
“I think a confident team will be thrilled at home tonight,” he said. “The way the game happens sometimes. When you reduce the results in those 50-50 games, you probably find ways to win, when you really protest to win opposite the flying team.
“The last ten overs with the ball got away from us: he scored 113 runs at that stage. If we could ban him, it became very easy to chase. Joe Root played an incredible innings, which was normally filled with square and character, and we needed one of the top six to go with him for a long time.
“Everyone is going to be very disappointed, and it’s going to be raw … allow you to pursue such things and to pursue you in your future – as a person, as a team, and an England as a white -ball side, to return to that level that we want to compete in these tournaments and go here to win.”
After the 83 -run stand with the root, the run chase fell at a significant time for Butler 38, which led to the end of being targeted for Afghanistan. Since the beginning of the 2023 World Cup, he has been reduced for some time in 50 overs cricket for some time, scoring 352 ODI at 22.00.
“I think I am one of the best players in the world when I am in my best form,” he said. “I am not performing at that level at this time. I have felt in good touch, but I am not getting the score that I have been used over time, so it’s disappointing.”
