Bangladesh Premier League franchises are supposed to pay 50% of a player’s total payment before the start of the tournament, 25% during the tournament and the remaining 25% after the tournament is over. However, Rajshahi did not pay the local players their first fee even two weeks into the tournament, which began on December 30.
“There is no doubt that they will get paid on January 16,” Jayed said. “We regret not being able to make the payments on time. There is no denying the fact. This should not have happened. The management has decided to pay 25% in cash. We will pay another 25% in cheques.”
“Our owner spoke on the phone with the BCB president. I met him personally. We had a cordial conversation. He wanted to understand the situation. We expressed our regret for the delay in payment. We promised him that we will make the payments tomorrow. .”
Jayed said some of the checks bounced because the bank could not clear the payment without confirming with Shafique over the phone.
“You will remember that the day our landlord’s wife fell to the ground, she was hit by a ball, she suffered a fracture. She was taken to Bangkok for treatment. Our landlord was with her. We had given the check earlier, so our The owner told me to inform the players that the checks will not be sent because he was not in the country.
“Otherwise the bank won’t call me. We told all the cricketers this, but one or two of them presented the cheque. They forgot the owner was in Bangkok.”
Rajshahi had made the 25% payment to its foreign players and coaching staff. The team will face Khulna Tigers in their seventh match at Chattogram on January 17.
