Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by six runs in a pulsed Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Encounter at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Sunday, 30 March.
Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and invited Royals to bat first to look like a decent surface. The house landed for a great start as Yashsvi Jaiswal hit a border with Khalil Ahmed's first ball. However, Southpow later dropped two balls out. Nitish Rana came out to bat at number 3 and looked at Imperius Touch.
He ran in a half -century off just 21 balls, as Royals posted 79/1 at the end of the powerplay. Sanju Samson sent himself to a beginning, but could not make capital on it. He was rejected by in-form Noor Ahmed for 16-Gennd 20. Rana scored 81 off just 36 balls with the help of 10 fours and five sixes, and continued his rampage. Ravichandran Ashwin saw him coming under the track and after widening it, he was eventually stumped by MS Dhoni. The former captain of India closed Bells after remembering Rana completely.
Ryan Parag scored 37 runs at 28 years, but failed to offer a final push on the backnd of the innings. Shimron Hetmier also struggled for big hits and died for 19. In the first 12 overs, RR made 129/3. However, they could manage only 53/6 in the final eight to end at 182/9 at the end of 20 overs. Noor, Khalil and Mathesh Pathirana took two wickets from the distant side. Meanwhile, Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja pasted one wicket with appellate.
In the second innings, Jofra Archer gave Rajasthan an ideal start as he rejected the in-form Rachin Ravindra and bowled a young woman in the first over. Rahul Tripathi tried to fight it in the middle and make some runs under his belt. However, Vanindu Hasranga finished his stay at the crease after scoring 23 runs off 19 balls.
Shivam Dubey looked good during his brief stay at the crease, but away from Hasranga's bowling, a magnificent grip from the parague sent him packing. Vijay Shankar also left cheaply as Onas was on Gikwad set to take his team home. However, Hasranga once again hit the CSK captain to score 63 runs in 44 balls. The Sri Lankan spinner completed his magic with 4/35 figures in four overs.
Dhoni scored 54 runs with CSK to join Jadeja in between Jadeja at number 7. CSK fans were waiting for the company to set fire with Jadeja for Dhoni. The former captain of former India hit some borders as CSK needed 20 in the final over.
Sandeep Sharma started the over with a detailed bowling. However, he did not bring the pressure to him as he rejected Dhoni with the first valid ball of the over as Hetmyer took a good diving catch on the deep mid-wicket to send the stalwart back to Hut. Finally, CSK ended at 176/6 in its 20 overs.
