The Control Board for Cricket in India (BCCI) organized a captain, coach and managers meeting at its headquarters on Thursday, March 20, beyond the 18th season Indian premiere league (IPL).
During the meeting, representatives of all 10 IPL teams gave feedback and opinion to various aspects of the game situation. Based on a consensus, the following updates are included.
1) Use of saliva to brighten the ball
Effective from IPL 2025 season, bowlers can use saliva to brighten the ball. This decision follows consultation with all 10 teams and marks the return of traditional ball maintenance practices. The ban on using saliva, which was originally imposed during the Covid -19 epidemic, is now lifted.
2) Wet ball replacement to dew counter
To face the challenges generated by dew during the evening matches, team bowling will now have the option to request a change in ball once after the 10th over.
- Bowling captains can request this, whether it appears or not. Once requested, the umpire will essentially replace the ball with another wear and tears. The bowling team will not have the freedom to choose a replacement ball.
- Additionally, the umpires maintain the authority to change the ball at any time before the 10th, if it is considered very wet, out of size, lost, or damaged. If a captain requests a ball change in the 11th over, it will evaluate the request and approve it if necessary.
- If only a few overs are requested after a few overs due to dew, the umpires would be required to change the ball as earlier.

3) Code of conduct
Effective from this season, a new code of conduct will be implemented from the Tata IPL 2025 season, introducing a demerit points system and suspension points that will remain valid for 36 months.
4) Extension of DRS Scope: The Decision Review System (DRS) has been expanded to include height-based no-ball reviews and comprehensive ball reviews outside the off-stump. The update system will use Hawk-I technology and ball-tracking to help the umpires in accurate and coherent decision making.
