'A 10-part series can be made' – Dinesh Karthik shares details about detailed plans for IPL auction

former indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik Talking about his intense preparation for the Indian Premier League (IPL) mini-auction, he described it as one of the most demanding but enjoyable phases of his cricketing career. Reflecting on the extensive work behind the scenes, Karthik commented that only preparation can make for a compelling series.

He described the days leading up to the auction as particularly tiring, noting that the ten-day period leading up to the event is very tiring and sometimes more difficult than actually playing cricket.

“If the world gets to see the full footage of what we speak and what we discuss, I think they can make a mega serial. They can make a 10-part TV series on it. The 10 days before the auction, the way we prepared, was the most exhilarating. I don't think I have gone through that kind of experience. I have played a lot of cricket, but discussing in the boardroom what it takes to build a team, the most challenging, It was the most fun and fascinating. “I have 10 days because a lot of preparation has gone into it,” Karthik said in a video shared by RCB on Instagram. Mo and Andy have a very detailed process they go through.”

Karthik emphasized that, despite working long hours, he thoroughly enjoyed being part of the strategic core group. Comparing the current mini-auction with the previous mega auctions, he admitted that the level of excitement in the latter was unmatched. He also delved into the complexities of player evaluation, explaining the multiple layers of decision making involved in assessing talent and finalizing choices.

“And I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of being in that room. At times, it was exhausting because we had 12-hour, 14-hour days. I really enjoyed every second. I would do anything to have the same kind of experience before the auction. It's a smaller auction, very different. I have to admit that the week before the mega auction was exciting. So many names, so many skill sets, how are you going to prepare the team, Giving my inputs, seeing what matters. A lot of things come up and I enjoyed it a lot,” said Karthik.

“But it is very interesting, interesting and mentally challenging because you are assessing different things. A- Skill set. B- What does it take to be part of a team? But most importantly, the auction order. Where does the player come from? Will we bid for him? If we bid, how far will we go? What do we need to do? So it is a very complex process, very challenging process and that's the thrill in the auction.”

Karthik highlighted the importance of understanding the competitive environment among franchises and the specific strategy that his team wanted to execute. He said the auction process is always exciting and he looks forward to reconnecting with everyone involved.

“Because when you sit in the auction, there are 10 tables and everyone wants to build their best team with the best players. And it's not about thinking outside the box sometimes; it's about understanding what strategy you want and making sure you achieve what you want,” Karthik said.

“At the same time, I'm enjoying this whole process because I've been waiting to get back. It was a great feeling to see everyone back on the field together. Last night, to be honest, I didn't sleep much. I was so excited to see Andy, Malo, Mo, all of them back together,” he concluded.
