Cricket Australia (CA) has confirmed that the all-rounder cameron green He is currently suffering from a lower back injury due to which he could not bowl for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, March 29.
KKR acquired Green's services for Rs 25.20 crore in the mini auction, aiming to replace Andre Russell as their leading overseas all-rounder. The 26-year-old scored 18 runs in 10 balls as the three-time champions posted 220 runs on the board in the first innings.
With MI chasing a record target at the Wankhede Stadium, KKR opted to utilize Green's services with the ball. However, when Rahane was asked why he was not handed the ball, he said ask Cricket Australia why it was so.
CA responded by saying that their star all-rounder should be fit to bowl in the next few weeks, and also made it clear that KKR were well aware of his injury situation ahead of the start of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL).
A CA spokesperson said, “Cameron has a lower back injury which is being managed but will require him to stay away from bowling for a short period of time. Cameron is currently rebuilding his bowling load in India with a view to a return in approximately 10-12 days' time. There has been communication with KKR and he is fully aware of this information.”
This is Green's third season in the IPL, having previously represented MI in 2023 and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2024. The seam-bowling all-rounder had bowled in the tournament earlier, and took 16 wickets in his IPL career. This includes taking 10 wickets for RCB at an economy rate of 8.61.
Meanwhile, KKR suffered a defeat at the hands of MI in the opening game, with the hosts chasing down the target of 220 with five balls to spare. The five-time champions were set up brilliantly by their openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton, who stitched a 148-run partnership in just 11.5 overs.
