'Many franchisees are running out of patience'

Former Indian fast bowler Irfan Pathan gave credit Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) To continue to support Mayank Yadav and Mohsin Khan despite recent injury concerns that have caused them to miss a large chunk of games in the last few seasons.

Mayank has played just twice for LSG in the last two seasons, while Mohsin missed the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season due to an ACL injury. Despite barely playing for the franchise, the pair were retained ahead of the 2026 IPL season for Rs 11 and Rs 4 crore respectively.

Pathan Want the fast bowling pair to repay the faith shown in them by LSG and perform well this season. While Mayank played twice for India A ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup, Mohsin will come into the IPL a bit of a disappointment as he has not played professional cricket since December 2024.

“Mayank Yadav has played six matches in two years, it is not enough. He is a retained player. He has to be available this year. If there is no place for him in the team, that is a different thing. The franchises have supported him. Mohsin Khan missed the whole of last year, and even in the first season he has not played all the games. But he has been supported; no other franchise does that. I have seen KKR and MI do it, but many “Franchises lose patience after one or two seasons.” Irfan Pathan said on his YouTube channel.

It is very important for the Indian fast bowlers in the LSG team to perform well this season, because the main strength of the team is overseas batting. Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran are expected to perform heavily with the bat this year for the Uttar Pradesh-based franchise, which will allow only one foreign bowler to feature in the playing eleven.

However, LSG have a strong Indian bowling contingent. These include Mohammed Shami, Avesh Khan, Prince Yadav and Naman Tiwari along with the above pair.

The Rishabh Pant-led team will play its first match in the 2026 IPL against Delhi Capitals on Wednesday, April 1, at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
