Concerns for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have intensified ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 as the star pacer sky lamp Is out due to injury. In the mini auction of IPL 2026, the Bengal fast bowler was signed by the franchise for his base price of Rs 1 crore. However, he won't get to wear the purple and gold flannels just yet.
Deep has joined the long list of injured bowlers at KKR. The three-time champions will not have the services of Harshit Rana for the entire season as he is recovering from a right knee ligament injury. Mathisha Pathirana may also miss the first few matches as he recovers from the hamstring injury he sustained during the T20 World Cup last month.
Cricbuzz reported that Deep has been ruled out of IPL 2026 but the exact nature of his injury is unclear. The 29-year-old player is understood to be undergoing rehabilitation at the Center of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru. Perhaps this is the reason why he did not attend KKR's training camp which started from March 18 in Kolkata.
“Unfortunately, he has been ruled out of the IPL, out for the season,” a top Kolkata Knight Riders official confirmed to the above mentioned cricket news website.
Deep played for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) last season after being included in the mega auction for Rs 8 crore. However, his performance was disappointing, as he took just three wickets in six matches at an average of 76.33 and an economy rate of 12.05.
While Deep has impressed fans and experts with his bowling skills in red-ball cricket, especially during India's tour of England last year, his performance in the white-ball has been somewhat of a disappointment.
KKR currently has Umran Malik, Kartik Tyagi and Vaibhav Arora as the Indian seam-bowling options. Reports suggest that Simarjeet Singh, Navdeep Saini, KM Asif and Akash Madhwal are some of the bowlers who are in the running to join the team as replacements.
