Royal Challengers Bengaluru gets green signal to host games at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium


In a major development, the Karnataka government has given final approval to the Karnataka State Cricket Association and Royal Challengers Bangalore to host the matches. indian premier league 2026 At the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Earlier, an expert committee constituted by the state government had inspected the stadium to assess its readiness for the upcoming IPL season. The committee conducted a detailed review and also conducted a full-scale mock demonstration of match day arrangements to evaluate security measures, crowd management and overall preparedness. After inspection and review, the committee approved the arrangements, paving the way for final approval ahead of the 19th edition of the IPL.

Meanwhile, KSCA is carrying out several renovation works at the stadium to enhance security and infrastructure. The association is installing new entrances and widening existing entrances to improve crowd movement. Additionally, new pathways and dedicated entry and exit routes for emergencies are being developed to ensure better safety standards for spectators.

Notably, as per the recommendations made by the Justice John Michael D'Cunha Committee, the renovation work was to be completed by March 15. These recommendations were presented after the tragic stampede incident in Bengaluru during the celebrations after RCB's maiden IPL title win.

The much-awaited schedule of IPL 2026 has already been announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The tournament is scheduled to begin on March 28, marking the 19th edition of the competition. Having ended their long wait for a trophy in IPL 2025, RCB will enter the tournament as defending champions for the first time.

With a strong squad and growing confidence after their historic win, it will be interesting to see how the Rajat Patidar-led side performs as they aim to defend their title in the upcoming season.
