blessings to muzarabaniWho had a remarkable campaign in the 2026 T20 World Cup, has pulled out of the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) after receiving a call-up to join Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The Zimbabwean fast bowler went unsold in the PSL auction last month but was signed directly by Islamabad United as a replacement for West Indian Shamar Joseph. However, he has chosen to play in the IPL instead of the PSL.
Muzarabani will return to India after recently completing a commendable World Cup campaign in the subcontinent, where his team defeated Sri Lanka and Australia to reach the Super Eights. In the six matches played in India and Sri Lanka, the right-arm seamer took 13 wickets – only Indian seamer Jasprit Bumrah and mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy took more in the marquee event (14 wickets in 8 and 9 matches respectively).
Muzarabani is expected to reach Kolkata on Tuesday, March 17 and join the Knights. Earlier this year, KKR had to terminate the contract of Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman after they acquired his services for Rs 9.20 crore. KKR's other high-profile fast bowling signing – Mathiesha Pathirana, is still undergoing rehabilitation due to the injury he sustained during the recently concluded T20 World Cup.
Muzarabani, who stands 6 feet 8 inches tall, joined Royal Challengers Bangalore at the end of last season as a temporary replacement player. He did not play any matches but was part of the team that won the IPL title for the first time. So, KKR have signed an IPL winner into their setup, who is in the form of his life.
29-year-old Muzarabani has played 137 T20s so far, in which he has taken 155 wickets at an average of 22.76 and strike rate of 18.50. His economy rate of 7.35 is excellent, especially for someone who bowls in the powerplay and also in the death overs.
KKR is set to begin its IPL 2026 campaign against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday, March 29.
