'He's made for big moments'

former indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik Recently he shared his perspective on Virat Kohli, providing a grounded and deeply personal insight into the man beyond the glamor of international cricket. Having spent several years with Kohli in the Indian dressing room as well as at Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Karthik reflected on the relationship built on trust, mutual respect and shared battles at the highest level.

Instead of focusing on the stats or accolades, Karthik focused on Kohli's personality, his response to pressure and the mindset that has defined his long and demanding career. The veteran wicketkeeper highlighted how Kohli effortlessly balances his fierce intensity on the field with an easy-going and approachable demeanor off the field.

“He is a fierce competitor but outside of that he is a fun guy. He is a normal human being like any of us. It's just that he is an extraordinary world champion batsman. That's one side of him. The other side of him is a normal human being who is from Delhi who cracks jokes like any Delhiite. A great family man and I have a lot of respect for him and I have always had a very good healthy respectful relationship with him,” said Kartik on Beard Before. Wicket Podcast.

Kartik also highlighted that their bond was never about seniority, but the way they carried themselves at different stages of their careers, embracing both the highs and overcoming the tough moments with the same sincerity and commitment.

“Yes, I am a little older than him. But it's not the age difference that has given me respect in the relationship. It's just how we have treated each other over time and we have seen some fair ups and downs. And I think what I see in him is the same guy I saw when I first met him and I have liked his evolution in the game,” Karthik said.

According to Karthik, Kohli's defining quality has always been his willingness, even eagerness, to take up responsibility when the stakes are greatest, a trait that sets him apart from most elite athletes.

“I think he's a guy who is made for big moments because he wants it more than anyone else. There are guys who when big moments come, they're like, 'Oh, what do I do?' And he wants that moment to be his before the game even starts,” said Karthik.
