Prithvi Shaw reacts 'okay' to going unsold before being bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs 75 lakh


IPL mini-auction 2026 sees opening batsmen, Prithvi ShawHe remained unsold twice before being secured by his former franchise, Delhi Capitals. Shaw's brief emotional reaction on social media before and after DC's move to secure him for Rs 75 lakh went viral.

Shaw entered the IPL 2026 auction after being released by Delhi Capitals ahead of IPL 2025 and missing the entire season. Despite a good performance in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he scored 183 runs in seven matches at a strike rate above 160. His name was called early in the auction, but failed to attract any bidders. Shaw was also overlooked during the second quick round.

As Shaw went no-sell after two rounds, the batsman posted an emotional story on Instagram, writing, “It's okay,” along with a heartbreak emoji and a hug emoji. However, moments later, they snatched away the Delhi-based franchise.

In the final quick round, the last chance of the auction, Delhi Capitals brought back Shaw, buying him at his base price of Rs 75 lakh. This marked a reunion of seven seasons, as Shaw represented the franchise from 2018 to 2024. Once the deal was done, Shaw quickly deleted her previous Instagram story and replaced it with another message, “Back to my family,” along with a red heart emoji.

Notably, the franchise had supported him since his teenage years, having bought him for Rs 1.2 crore in 2018 after India's Under-19 World Cup win. Over 79 IPL matches, Shaw has scored 1,892 runs at a strike rate of 147.46. However, his career slowed down in recent seasons due to inconsistency, fitness concerns and disciplinary issues. On the domestic front, Shaw has moved to Maharashtra from Mumbai. While his national career has stalled, he last played for India in 2021.
