'LSG has always supported me'

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has long been a platform to unearth exceptional talent Mayank Yadav One of its latest extraordinary discoveries. After making his debut for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2024, the young fast bowler quickly caught the attention of the entire Indian cricket, and displayed the qualities of a budding pace sensation for the Men in Blue.

Although his first season was brilliant, a series of injuries halted his progress and kept him out of competitive action. Now, when LSG has decided to retain him, Mayank has expressed his gratitude towards the franchise for continuing to support him despite the setbacks. Ahead of IPL 2026, the management's show of confidence resonated deeply with him, and he expressed his sincere appreciation for the team's unwavering support and belief in their ability.

“This is a huge thing for me, and I am grateful that despite all the setbacks due to injuries in the last 2-3 seasons, LSG is still supporting me. The team, the owner, have always been with me on and off the field. In fact, the owner, Dr. Sanjiv Goenka, gave me the confidence that whenever I need it or whatever I need in my life, he is with me,” Mayank told Times of India.

The trading window for IPL 2026 has already yielded several surprise moves, with Mohammed Shami's transfer to LSG being one of the most unexpected. While the cricket world was shocked by the development, Shami's arrival has significantly strengthened LSG's bowling unit. When Mayank was asked about the trade, he said that he is excited about the opportunity and is thrilled to share the dressing room with such an experienced and highly respected fast bowler.

Mayank said, “Shami bhai was with me during the rehab at the BCCI Center of Excellence. I have known him for the last one and a half years. It will be very exciting for me to share the final with him.”

While his IPL journey has been hampered by injuries since his debut, the upcoming season will be an important chapter in Mayank's career. As he prepares for the new edition, his primary focus is on staying fit, staying on the field and making meaningful contributions to the team.

“I have just one goal, that is to play more and more games because that is the only thing I have been missing for the last two years. The only goal I want to achieve this year is to play and contribute for my team,” the speedster concluded.
