5 player GT may be released before IPL 2026 auction

Gujarat Titans (GT) Finished fourth in IPL 2025 after a very comfortable season. The Gujarat-based franchise had made a sensational start by winning IPL 2022, but like any team, they had some areas that needed improvement. They made it to the finals once again in 2023, but lost to Chennai Super Kings by a narrow margin. Since then, the campaigns of the Ahmedabad-based franchise have not been that impressive.

With the IPL 2026 mini-auction approaching, the Shubman Gill-led side may consider releasing some players to strengthen their squad. This will help them pick up new talent and potentially better names at an effective cost, which will help them win their second title. As a result, CricTracker feels it is a good time to highlight five players whom GT may not consider retaining ahead of the 2026 auction.

Rahul Tewatia Could be a potential release for GT, as he's had limited opportunities to make an impact. He played 12 innings and scored only 99 runs, mostly during the death overs, giving him very few balls to settle on and build an innings. Retained for Rs 4 crore in the 2025 mega auction, Tewatia's contribution relative to his price tag was minimal,

The issue that makes him a likely candidate for release is that GT relied heavily on their top-order last season, and Tewatia rarely got any big time in the middle. However, he did not bowl that well, raising question marks over GT's plans to use him as an all-rounder. Therefore, he cannot be retained in the set-up for the 2026 season.
