Ashwin for retention talks with CSK ahead of mini auction

According to sources, Ashwin has sought clarity from the franchise how they plan to use them in the upcoming season. The 37 -year -old has allegedly told CSK that if he does not fit his long -term plans, he will be open to the methods of farewell.

Ashwin was purchased by CSK for earning 9.75 crores in the IPL 2025 mega auction, which was returning to his home franchise after almost a decade. However, the season of his return was not as expected. The off-spinner played only nine out of the 14 league matches of CSK, with the lowest performance in a single IPL season since his debut in 2009. Ashwin also recorded the rate of 9.12 economy, the highest in the history of the tournament, which crosses its previous best of 8.49.

Ashwin indicates the possibility of a business

The IPL 2026 auction schedule is yet to be finalized, but the time limit of retention will depend on its date. While the mega auction takes place every three years, a mini auction is held annually between November and February. The player remains open until a week before the trade window auction, which means that CSK and Ashwin still have time to decide on the next step.

During the recent chat on his YouTube channel with Sanju Samson, Ashwin indicated himself on the possibility of a business. If he participates with the team, it will also mean that to avoid any possible conflict, below his role as director of operations in the CSK Academy.

Meanwhile, the captaincy is a major talk, in which MS Dhoni took over in 2025 after the post -injury from the middle season of Ruturaj Gikwad. While Dhoni's future possibility will be confirmed only after his pre-season training, if available is expected to lead Gaikwad if available. Senior management, including Dhoni and Gikwad, have recently been in Chennai for internal strategy meetings, who are believed to have covered both leadership and player retention plans. Meanwhile, the off-spinner is one of the most skillful bowlers in the league, with 187 wickets in 221 IPL matches at a strike rate of 118 with 833 runs in a career economy of 7.29.
