Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni Talked about the deep bond developed with the city of Chennai over the years. Experienced cricketers have been an important person in the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise since the establishment of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008.
Born in Ranchi, reflecting his journey, Ranchi recalled his test at the Ma Chidambaram Stadium in Chenk's Chepack against Sri Lanka. He shared that his special relationship with the city started from that moment and has only become stronger.
“This is a very long relationship that we have and it has started much before the start of the IPL … 2005 was the time when I made my test debut in Chennai (MA Chidambaram Stadium in vs Sri Lanka). Therefore, it started from that time and yes, CSK helped in a big way because I had a sudden 45-50 days.”

The 44 -year -old also reflected his long -term relationship with the CSK franchise, stating that it played an important role in shaping him as a cricketer and as a person. The star cricketer highlighted how CSK has evolved into a global brand, with an emotional fan base that extends beyond borders to cricket-playing countries around the world. Veteran wicketkeeper-Bater has led the Chennai-based side to lead five IPL titles to the Chennai-based side, and stands as one of the most successful captains in the history of the tournament.
“So, I think the relationship has increased for years. This helped me improve as a person. This helped me improve as a cricketer. Therefore, CSK was just done. I think it is good for Chennai. So, it is good for me nowadays. Nowadays when we go and say CSK, then it is not only a brand in India, but when we do not have a brand in India, but when we are in Australia, South Africa, or when we do it.
However, CSK IPL ended at the bottom of the table in 2025 and will be determined to make a strong return in the 2026 season. With a new focus, the franchise will aim to demonstrate its full strength and push for the record-accounting sixth IPL title.
