RCB marketing head Nikhil Sosle's interim release, passport detained

M. in Bengaluru. After a tragic stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Karnataka High Court granted bail Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Nikhil Sosele, head of Marketing and Revenue, ordered him to surrender his passport. The move comes in view of a stampede on June 4 during the RCB's IPL 2025 victory ceremony, in which 11 people lost their lives and more than 50 people were injured.

On June 4, the team was stamped outside the Stadium after announcing a free entry for fans to celebrate the success of the team. The program showed millions of fans, causing chaos outside the stadium and injured more than 50 people for the lives of 11 people.

RCB's event management partner was arrested in the early hours of June 6, along with Nikhil, Sunil Matthew (Vice President – Business Affairs) and DNA Entertainment Network, with Kiran Kumar (Senior Event Manager). Sosel was detained at the airport by the Central Crime Branch. A fourth accused, a freelance ticketing executive, Shamant NP Mavinkere was also taken into custody. The four were sent to Parappana Aghara Central Jail.

Police Cedar indicated fingers on event organizers, which failed to regulate the crowd despite knowing the possible voting scale. The FIR said that confusion in entry management played a direct role in the stampede.

The arrest made a legal debate, especially Sosle's lawyer after challenging his legitimacy in the Karnataka High Court. Raksha argued that the arrest was politically impressed, citing the alleged instructions of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to take RCB officials into custody. He also said that the police had no jurisdiction in this case and the persons were arrested without adequate investigation or conviction.

Justice Shri Krishna Kumar of the Karnataka High Court finally ruled in favor of granting bail to all four accused, including Sosel. However, the court implemented the conditions, especially Sosle to surrender to its passport to prevent any opportunity for theft.
