Indian premiere league (IPL) 2025 finals ended without any obstruction, a significant relief in view of both geophysical stress and hazardous threats from both the weather. However, to ensure that the appropriate plan, scientific data analysis and smart decisions were taken by the Control Board for Cricket in India (BCCI) to ensure that in the tournament.
During the IPL Governing Council (GC) meeting held on 20 May, BCCI officials found themselves to play the role of meteorologists, studying the weather patterns across the country before finalizing places for playoff matches – Qualifier 1, Eliminator, Qualifier 2, and Finals.
Initially, the playoffs were to be held in Hyderabad and Kolkata. However, due to a long time a week due to the border tension and change in weather conditions, the condition requires revaluation of the situation.
The BCCI came to the GC meeting with weather forecast for all IPL cities. The Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the original site for the final, was expected to have 65 percent rainfall, while Ahmedabad showed only three percent opportunity. As a result, the council decided to move the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
There was speculation that change in Ahmedabad was a political decision. However, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saik addressed the concerns a day after the final and revealed that the decision was completely based on scientific input.
“The decision was never political. We focus on scientific materials and inputs. There was no forecast of rain in Ahmedabad at the time of GC,” Saikia said as a quoted by Cricbuzz.
In particular, heavy rains hit Kolkata on the night of 3 June, while the IPL final was going on in Ahmedabad. However, there was a light drizzle in Ahmedabad that afternoon. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBK) proceeded without any hindrance.
The qualifier was not completely interrupted by 2 seasons. On June 1, the play faced a delay of two hours due to rain, and the irony that day is that Kolkata enjoyed a clear sky. Despite the delay, proceeded without losing the match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and PBKS without a single.
